Since I have been down in North Carolina, I have enrolled in Planet Fitness. The gym hasn't always been my favorite thing, so I didn't start going on my own until a year and a half ago. When previously going to the gym, I felt intimidated, "What if people are watching me do this machine right now?" "What if I bump into someone that I know?" Now, if this isn't you, you're doing great. Keep it up!
However, for many of you, that isn't the case. I'm here to tell you that it's completely normal to feel this way, and you can overcome the feeling by facing your fears (and you should!). As I stated in my previous blog post, I am reading a book called Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear. Elizabeth Gilbert discusses how to overcome your fears, as cliché as that sounds, it's actually great advice. Gilbert states, "For the entirety of my young and skittish life, I had fixated upon my fear as if it were the most interesting thing about me, when actually it was the most mundane. In fact, my fear was probably the only 100 percent mundane thing about me. I had creativity within me that was original; I had personality in me that was original; I had dreams and perspectives within me that was original. But my fear was not original in the least." If you're going to the gym, despite how uncomfortable or judged you may feel, keep up the good work. You are pushing yourself. You are bettering yourself, and I admire you. I am a firm believer that we shouldn't be so fixated on what others think of us. Instead, do what breaks you out of our comfort zone. Fear exists in us all. Ultimately, it makes us all human and vulnerable. But, fear is boring. Try pushing yourself out of your comfort zone daily, and do something that you wouldn't normally do. It may be as simple as greeting a stranger that walks by you. I can assure you that you will notice a difference in your personal growth and happiness. Readers, what is something you are fearful of, and how do you manage it? XO, Jaimee

Jaimee ~ You are truly one of the most fearless young women I know! You "dive into the deep end" and try new things seemingly always! And your post is an excellent description of the fears and trepidation we all face when "new" comes around the corner. I'm getting ready, as you know, to try something new myself...and it's scary as the dickens. But I know I can do it. Thanks for the reassurance!
